Black & Gold

TGIF! I hope you all had a great week. I have been looking forward to this weekend for quite some time now because I am currently on vacation! Today I am sharing an outfit that I wore last weekend for a night out to celebrate a friend's birthday. These faux leather leggings are totally my go-to for going out, especially now as the weather cools down. I have mentioned before that I am not a huge short dress girl, so I love that I can throw on a pair of leggings and not only feel comfortable, but look polished and put together. I clearly have some other favorite items this week, and you may notice a few similarities between Monday's post and today's post. I can't get enough of these burgundy heels that I recently picked up at Target. I originally bought them for my Mad Men themed Halloween costume, but couldn't help but wear them sooner. They're really practical and easy to wear all night long, and you can't beat the under $30 price tag! I hope have a fun and eventful weekend... I know I will, and can't wait to share pictures from my trip when I get back!

Top 5 Booties Under $50

In the cooler months, I am all about the bootie! If any of you struggle like I do to find tall boots that are 1) actually tall enough for you and 2) wide enough to accommodate your thicker calves/legs, then you will know that ankle boots are a great alternative! I literally own one pair of tall boots, which share the closet with multiple pairs of ankle boots and booties. I find ankle boots to be a lot more versatile and comfortable for every day wear than tall boots. Today I am sharing my top 5 ankle boots/booties that are all under $50, because you know I am a sucker for a great deal! Speaking of, make sure to check out the great sale going on at Old Navy (25% off your entire online purchase with the code SAVE (valid until 11/05).

5. DV by Dolce Vita 'Poise' Wedge Bootie (on sale for $49.96)

Do you have any favorite ankle boots or booties? I would love if you shared your favorites with me!

Killin' It + Style to Inspire Link Up

This is the first Monday I have been ok with in awhile, and I only say that because this week will be a short week for me at work. We are headed to Reno and SJ/SF later in the week and I couldn't be more excited for our trip! I am really looking forward to going to Reno for the first time for a friend's wedding, and even more so to see friends in the Bay Area! I also can't wait to indulge in a clam chowder bread bowl and hit up Coffee Bean! Since I only have a few days left before we leave, I should probably start packing. I always wind up being such a last minute packer, even though it sounds really good to start early, I almost never follow through. I have a feeling I will be packing most of the pieces I am wearing in today's post, including this Killin' It top from Style Lately. I am typically not a big graphic tee girl, maybe because it brings me back to my high school days when I wore a lot of band tees, however I do love this Killin' It tee from Style Lately! You really can't go wrong with a white v-neck top, as it is such a classic wardrobe staple. Style Lately has a ton of cute clothing and jewelry options, including this Chic Just Got Real tee and sparkle and shine bracelet. If you want to get your hands on the top I am wearing today, Style Lately has been kind enough to offer a great discount code to use toward your next purchase - at check out use the code LOVESTYLELATELY  for 15% off!

Weekend Casual with Pink Slip Boutique

Two casual outfits in one week, both with the same pair of Gap jeans... such a blogger faux pas. However if you know me IRL you'll know that this is pretty much how I dress on a daily basis (glasses included). I am lucky enough to have a job where I can wear jeans Monday-Friday, and I totally take advantage of that. Flats, dark denim, and some type of blazer or cardigan is my go-to fall combination. Enter this fabulous sweater from Pink Slip Boutique. Pink Slip is really the only place you need to look if you're searching for a great printed oversized cardigan, such as the one I am wearing today. I love the idea of coral for fall to brighten up my wardrobe! Some of my other favorites from Pink Slip include the multicolor tribal print cardigangray geometric print sweater, and black & taupe aztec sweater. I'd love to hear from you... what are some of your favorite sweater styles for fall?

Return of the Blanket Scarf

Today I am teaming up with the beautiful Kara of the blog Mrs. Mess to share our favorite ways to wear a blogger favorite - the blanket scarf. I am so glad that Kara found me in the blogging world! It is so nice to connect with other bloggers who have a similar aesthetic and view on style. We both strive to share pieces with our readers that are accessible, affordable, and practical for the every day girl. I love that when she sent me pictures of her outfit for this post we both included similar pieces without even planning it. We clearly both have a love for the mix of leopard and plaid! Be sure to check out Kara's blog, Mrs. Mess, and make sure to follow her along on Instagram.

To say I love my Zara scarf is an understatement. At first I felt totally ridiculous with it on because it can be very overwhelming in size, but the colder it got, the more I fell in love with it! Last year I was lucky enough to receive this one for Christmas. I tried and tried to get on the waiting list for the camel colored one, but unfortunately was unable to get my hands on it. I had total FOMO this year when I saw that Zara brought this style of scarf back, and sure enough... missed it again! I did recently pick up this oversized plaid scarf from Target over the weekend, and although it's about half the width of the Zara version, it is definitely a great option.

Wearing:
Zara Blanket Scarf (last year's version, grab this one and this one before they're gone!)
H&M Blazer (old, this year's version here)
3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Top (old)
Sam & Libby Leopard Loafers (old, love this pair from Sole Society)
Chanel Purse
Warby Parker Crosby Eyeglasses (no longer available, the Winston are almost identical)

Trial & Error with Agnes & Dora

TGIF! I am so excited to finally share this darling Agnes & Dora skirt with you today! I'll be honest... I had my first total blogger fail this week. I even told my husband that we need to invest in a full length mirror after this one.You see, this is actually the second set of pictures I took with this skirt, and I am so glad I did! Do you ever get dressed and the outfit sounds/looks totally perfect in your head and even looks pretty good on a quick glance out the door? I thought I had put together a winner, and was even taking a chance with some texture mixing (i.e. a sequin front sweatshirt + this skirt). Long story short, the minute I looked at the pictures when we were finished I was totally embarrassed. The outfit that was great in my head looked absolutely ridiculous on and it was a huge let down. Thankfully I am married to someone waaaaay more patient than I am, and we were able to take another set of photos that did this skirt justice. I can't even begin to tell you how comfortable AND flattering this skirt is! It is the perfect length for me, and I can totally see myself wearing it throughout the year, especially in the spring or summer with a white top and a pair of wedges. Since the color and print of this skirt is very light and feminine, it definitely needed something a little more tough to balance the look, like a leather jacket. Better late than never to figure that out I suppose! I would love to hear your ideas regarding how you would style this skirt, or any of the other adorable pencil skirts that Agnes & Dora have to offer.

Do you want a chance to win your favorite item from Agnes & Dora? Head over to my Instagram (@lindsayrutland) for a giveaway, starting today! And if you absolutely can't wait (which I don't blame you) you can order your favorites now and save 15% with the code SOMEWHERE15

My 30th Birthday + Piperlime Giveaway!

I can't believe my 30th birthday has already come and gone, but I honestly could not have asked for a more amazing weekend! My day was kicked off with a delicious brunch with my husband at The Grove, followed by a mani/pedi with my mom and sister. I almost never get my nails done because I typically prefer to do them myself, but since it was my birthday I thought I would get the full treatment. I knew I wanted the theme of the day to be gold and white, and of course my nails were no exception. In the evening, my family took me to a surprise dinner at The Corn Maiden, which was out of this world! If you are ever in NM, I would highly recommend it for a special occasion. After dinner, my sister set up a birthday party at her house, complete with balloons, macarons, cupcakes, and of course, gifts. My sister got me my absolute favorite Emoji to wear as a necklace (the dancing girls!), and I can't wait to share it on here soon. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful and thoughtful family to make my day and night so special! I have a feeling my 30's may be some of the best years yet.
