Meanwhile on Instagram...

There is no doubt that Instagram is by far my favorite social media outlet. I am known to spend a good portion of my down time double tapping some IG's (name that reference!). Although I have to be honest, at times it can feel a bit unauthentic to me seeing so many beautifully styled pictures with perfect lighting, I still enjoy the ease at which I can connect to others through it. And who am I kidding? I probably took the above picture about 10 times to get it "just right". I do not consider myself to be a particularly creative person, however I find that Instagram can be an inspiring outlet for me. Here is a look back at some of my favorite IG pictures from the past two weeks:

My husband and I were lucky enough to go see a Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers game while we were in Arizona for his birthday weekend and had the best seats!

Little miss Joanie Bones Jones (just one of the many ridiculous nicknames we have for her) enjoying the sun while out hiking with us in the mountains over the Memorial Day weekend.

I had a little too much fun matching my nailpolish to my BKR bottle. For the entire month of May, I have been participating in the Blossom X BKR water beauty challenge thanks to Blossom Lounge. I am in the home stretch, and will be blogging more about this challenge once I complete it over the weekend, so stay tuned!

Find me on Instagram @lindsayrutland.
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! XO

Dressed Up Basics

If my love for demin has not been made obvious by now, let me reiterate my belief that you can never go wrong with a classic pair of dark wash skinny jeans. In my short blogging life, I believe 90% of my posts include denim in some shape or form. I can't get enough! They take me from work to weekends no matter what time of year it is. Denim can feel very basic, so I love to dress up my jeans with a little something special, such as this beautiful lace top and turquoise necklace from Crave Jewels. This necklace is the perfect statement piece for a New Mexican like myself!

Desert Rain

The smell of New Mexico rain is something that is so hard to describe, and it is definitely not something I have experienced in any other state I have been to. When my husband and I lived in the Bay Area we would get a ton of rain, but it was always missing that special something. Maybe it's simply the combination of rain and dirt, but it seems like it is something unique to this area. The smell is one of my favorite things, especially as the weather gets warmer. We don't get a lot of rain here, but when we do you always know it's coming based on how it smells outside. A light jacket is all you need this time of year in Albuquerque, and I love this polka dot blazer I found at Target earlier this year (on clearance for $10!). Paired with some boyfriend jeans, the softest tee I own, and one of my favorite Baublebar necklaces, I was ready to brave the desert rain for a night out with friends.

Long Weekend Lounging

I don't know about you, but when I know I have a three day weekend coming up, all I can think about is wearing comfy clothes and lounging around the house. I am somewhat of a homebody and I truly live for the weekends, especially extended ones. And let's be honest, relaxing and marking things off a to-do list may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it definitely makes me happy. I always look forward to having at least one day during my weekend where I don't wear makeup or dry/style my hair and this one will be no exception - I may even be able to get away with two days of it if I am lucky! Some of my go-to lounge items include:

1. Ban.do iPad Sleeve: I become quite the Pinner on the weekends, and I love this cheeky iPad case!
2. VS Pink Yoga Leggings: The easiest and most comfortable go-to pant for me at home.
3. Racerback Tank: You can't go wrong with a simple racerback tank for layering.
4. Warby Parker Glasses: I love to switch off between this style ('Holt') and my Crosby's. The new summer line of Warby Parker's are adorable - check them out if you haven't already!
5. American Apparel Hoodie: The most comfortable and versitile hoodies out there, and perfect if your significant other enjoys a freezing cold air conditioned house all summer like mine does.
6. I'm So Tired Tee: I am a huge fan of Hello Apparel, and have been eyeing this tee (and the sweatshirt) forever. Is it ridiculous that I love the saying because it reminds me of my dog?
7. JCrew Moccasins: My husband always makes fun of me for wearing slippers when it's 80+ degrees out, but I can't stand having cold feet! (he also loves that I use a blanket while on the couch 365 days a year)

I hope you all have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! xo

Party Skirt

How incredible is this skirt? I was lucky enough to win it from Bel & Beau (via O My Darlings Blog on Instagram), and loved it even more in person when I received it! It came in the mail just a few days before my husband's 30th birthday party and I knew I had to wear it for the festivities. To make sure the skirt was the star of the show, I paired it with a simple navy tank (that I realized was semi-sheer only after editing these pictures) and nude accessories.

Aldo Clutch (old, also loving this one)
Viva La Jewels Necklace (no longer available, other options)

Here are a few pictures from the party. Cory's parents set the whole thing up and I loved all of the attention to detail with the decorations and desserts.

Transparency & A Twist

When I found out that I had won a blog design, my hopes of one day starting a blog were immediately propelled into action. Before the design was complete, I was feeling antsy and ambitious because I was so excited to get started. I began thinking of content and enlisted the hubs to take pictures. These photos were actually taken on Easter on the way to my parent's house. In the spirit of keeping it real, you will probably begin to notice that I don't wear many short dresses. Nice legs are something I believe you are either born with or without, and unfortunately for me, I am not one of the lucky ones. I love the tulip hemline on this bright blue dress because it is a little more playful and interesting than your run of the mill maxi dress, while still allowing me to feel comfortable and not too exposed. Old Navy maxi dresses are also perfect for me and all of you 5'8"+ girls because they come in tall lengths!

Happy Birthday

Today is a very special day... it is my husband's 30th birthday! My life is infinitely better now that you are a part of it and I don't know what I would do without you. The past 8 years have been wonderful and I look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with you! Here is a look back at some of my favorite memories with you, birthday boy... 30 looks good on you.

Weekend Getaway Essentials

This weekend I am lucky enough to be going on a trip to Arizona with my husband and his parents to celebrate his 30th birthday. I am very much looking forward to getting out of town and enjoying one of our favorite cities! I almost always over pack (who doesn't?), so I am really going to make a conscious effort to only pack the essentials this time because the trip will be so short. Here are some of my must-haves for my weekend getaway:

1. Straw Fedora: To protect myself from the intense AZ rays
2. Wallet/Clutch: I can't live without my Lauren wallet from Hobo International, especially because it can double as a clutch if needed.
3. Casual Dress: I love this simple black dress from Gap because it can transition from daytime with sandals to nighttime with wedges and some statement jewelry.
4. Fresh Mani/Pedi: I can't go on a trip without one, especially in a bright hue when it's warm out (it will be over 100 degrees there this weekend!)
5. Sandals: To stay comfy while walking all day
6. Water: I am currently taking the Blossom x BKR water beauty challenge (stay tuned for details) and am determined to stick to my 5 bottles a day, even while out of town!
7. SF Giants Shirt: To wear to the baseball game we will attend on my husband's birthday. Even though it will be the Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks, I have to rep my team.
8. Statement Earrings: To wear day or night, depending on where we go

Heat Wave

New Mexico is very random in the spring time... some days it is in the 70's, and others it's back down to the 50's. The day we took this pictures it was somewhere in the mid 70's, otherwise known as the perfect temperature for me. My husband and I were on our way celebrate my grandma's 88th birthday and we couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather. Ok, I take that back... I wish it could have been a bit less windy, but who am I kidding? That is the name of the game in the springtime here. Given the rise in temperature, I figured it would be the perfect day to bust out a maxi dress and try out my new cult-classic lipstick - Nars 'Heat Wave'. I don't typically wear such bright shades, but figured I'd go for it after seeing it on so many of my favorite bloggers and IGer's. I also have to poke fun at myself for a minute here. You know how sometimes you hear people say that they have held on to something since high school? I am in no way a part of that club, aside from this jacket. I have literally owned this (wait for it...) Hollister denim jacket since I was in high school. I can't believe I have held on to it for all of these years, but I just never have the heart to get rid of it. Now I am glad I have kept it around because it is the perfect lightweight jacket to throw on in the spring and fall.

Shades of Spring

When I ordered these jeans, all I could do was cross my fingers and hope that they would be the perfect distressed boyfriend jeans that I had always wanted but could never find. Shockingly, they were even better than I imagined! I mainly reserve these jeans for the weekends because they don't feel work appropriate, due to the placement of the distressing and light wash. I usually struggle with finding jeans that I love and fit well, and when I find a pair I wear them to death. Standing almost 5'10" tall and far from a sample size, pants/jeans have not always been kind to me. As you will notice in future posts, I have multiples of my favorites (enter the dark wash Gap Always Skinny fit). Since I typically wear a darker wash, it is nice to add these boyfriend jeans to the mix, especially for the upcoming warmer months paired with light fabrics and accessories.

Hello...

When I wore this outfit to work, one of my first interactions of the day was being asked by a co-worker "Is it Valentine's Day?" (insert Emoji side eye face). I absolutely love this shirt and was lucky to snag it during one of Hello Apparel's sales a few months ago. The next item on my wishlist is definitely the I'm So Tired pullover! Also, can we talk about this gorgeous necklace from Viva La Jewels? It is the perfect statement necklace to dress up or down, depending on the occasion. Considering my job and where I work, jeans, casual tops, and statement necklaces are my go-to pieces on a Monday through Friday basis. What are your weekday/workday staples?

I also must give credit to my husband for coming up with the idea for the location of this shoot. If you are a Breaking Bad fan, this house may look familiar to you. We love being tourists in our own city!

New Beginnings

Starting a blog feels like a job interview. It is your first chance to make an impression and let others know who you are. For me, it has been so easy to get caught up in insecurities and wonder "Who am I?" and "Why would people want to read about me on a daily basis?" I often thought of starting my first blog post with the title Another Girl, Another Blog because let's be real, there are so many blogs out there to even keep track of and I read a ton of them. It has felt very daunting to try to dip my toes in the pool of the blogging world. Needless to say, I am excited and nervous to finally have a space to make my own, and I feel like I am prepared enough to get this thing started. I honestly don't know if I would have ever made the leap if it were not for the talented Mariah from Fashion by Mariah. Without further ado, I figured my first post should include what a typical weekend looks like for my husband and I... out with Joanie enjoying the beauty that New Mexico has to offer.
